What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy that focuses on the treatment of pain and dysfunction of the musculoskeletal system. We employ a “hands-on”, holistic approach to a treatment, identifying the cause of your pain and treat it accordingly. Following a thorough history and examination of the patient, we will use a variety of techniques to help your condition. These include:

Soft Tissue Massage and Stretching Deep tissue massage and stretching to reduce tightness and spasm in muscles. Which allows for greater flexibility and reduced tightness and pain. Manipulation – “clicking” of your joints to help improve joint mobility and reduce reactive muscle spasm, leading to less pain and stiffness.

Trigger point Inhibition Identifying pain causing “knots” in your muscles and applying sustained pressure to them to reduce their tone and impact on you.

Joint Mobilisation – In the event that manipulation is not appropriate, we are able to use gentle joint mobilisation techniques to help reduce stiffness in joints and improve mobility.

Muscle Energy Technique – Whereby we get the patient to “contract and relax” a muscle or muscle groups to increase flexibility and blood flow.

We are also able to advise you on stretching and strengthening, devising a rehabilitation program specific to your condition. Advice is also given on posture, workplace set up (ergonomics), exercise, diet & nutrition.
