What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a form of manual therapy that focuses on the treatment of pain and dysfunction of the musculoskeletal system. We employ a “hands-on”, holistic approach to a treatment, identifying the cause of your pain and treat it accordingly. Following a thorough history and examination of the patient, we will use a variety of techniques to help your condition. These include:
Soft Tissue Massage and Stretching – Deep tissue massage and stretching to reduce tightness and spasm in muscles. Which allows for greater flexibility and reduced tightness and pain. Manipulation – “clicking” of your joints to help improve joint mobility and reduce reactive muscle spasm, leading to less pain and stiffness.
Trigger point Inhibition – Identifying pain causing “knots” in your muscles and applying sustained pressure to them to reduce their tone and impact on you.
Joint Mobilisation – In the event that manipulation is not appropriate, we are able to use gentle joint mobilisation techniques to help reduce stiffness in joints and improve mobility.
Muscle Energy Technique – Whereby we get the patient to “contract and relax” a muscle or muscle groups to increase flexibility and blood flow.
We are also able to advise you on stretching and strengthening, devising a rehabilitation program specific to your condition. Advice is also given on posture, workplace set up (ergonomics), exercise, diet & nutrition.
